Sunless tanning is a quick and popular way to enjoy the look of a tan without being in the sun or using a tanning bed. Today's spray tan use self tanning solutions perfect for creating an instant, realistic tan. No more unsightly orange streaking or spotting associated with self tanners of the past.
Since sunless tanners are absorb by the top layers of your skin, it is best to exfoliated and moisturize your skin prior to your spray tan. If skin is dry or flaky you may experience spotty results after a day or two.
Exfoliate your skin 12 to 48 hours prior to your spray tan. Spend a little extra time on knees, elbows, feet and hands.
Shave at least 1 day prior to your spray tan.
Only apply products specifically formulated for sunless tanning 2 hours prior to your spray tan. Lotions can create a barrier, preventing the absorption of tanning solutions.
Make sure you don't have any barriers on your skin such as: lotion, hair spray, perfume, body sprays, makeup deodorant, etc ...
Remove makeup prior to your spray tan.
Wear dark, loose fitting clothes. Sunless solution washes out of most clothing. But solutions with immediate bronzers could wipe off on lighter clothing. Causing a temporary appearance of discoloration.
Wait at least 6 hours before you shower to allow the self tanning solution to completely interact with your skin.
If you chose a self tanning solution with immediate cosmetics bronzers you will see these bronzers wash off during your first shower. But left behind will be a beautiful sunless tan.
Wash palms, finger tips and if possible bottom of feet every couple of hours post-spray to keep them from picking up excess color.
Do not apply moisturizer or other lotions until after your first shower. This could affect the reaction of the self tanning solution on the skin and cause streaking.
Avoid physical exertion for at least 6 hours. Excessive perspiration can affect the reaction of the self tanning solution on the skin causing streaking.
Do not exfoliate your skin for at least 48 hours after your spray tan. When you do exfoliate do so gently and evenly to preserve an even sunless tan.
A sunless tan offers no protection to sun exposure. You should apply sunscreen as normal.
